O Lord, consider my sighing

This is a tough time of year for me. It didn’t use to be, May was always a time of great joy. Besides celebrating Mothers Day with both my wife and Mother it is effectively, in southern California at least, the beginning of summer which also means BBQ season. Both were always a great joy around our house. Lynn is a great Mother and both Rhys and I never let her forget it and watching my son put away a rack of ribs was amazing.

This last Mothers Day weekend we were invited to a family style BBQ with my son’s widow Stephanie & their daughter London and of course the rest of the Griffith Clan. It was a nice day in the park and any quality time we get to spend with Stephanie and London is worth all the effort. Food family and Fun, what more can you ask for, right?

The problem is, the 5 day old memory of that day is already fuzzy. I don’t remember a lot of the conversations or the sights and sounds I just remember the longing and the loneliness. I remember lifting my thoughts towards Heaven while Lynn and I were trying to fly some stupid kite and wondering if Rhys was watching us and laughing. Later that night I wondered why God left me here to watch over Rhys’ child instead of just taking an old coot like me and leaving the young man to do what I raised him to do; be a loving compassionate, caring husband and father. He was ready to do that Lord!

“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my sighing.”
Psalm 5:1

In this Psalm, David implores God to turn His ears to him so He can hear his plea. David asks God to “consider” his sighing. To consider is another way of saying, “Please, Lord, hear me. I’m beseeching You.”

Unlike David I am not feeling the pressure of my enemies unless you consider my feelings of dread, loneliness and my longing to be with my son, an enemy to my sanity. As a child of God and follower of Jesus Christ I should expect to have spiritual enemies I guess and my armor has more than a few chinks.

David was feeling the pressure of real enemies and seeing the wickedness of those around him he desperately needed reassurance from God that his prayers would be heard and answered. And as usual God answered the Kings plea.

Can you relate to that? Is it possible to look at your situation today and not feel helpless, alone even in a crowd? I look around in the secular world and all I see are lost people retreating from God and turning to everything that opposes Him.

So what can we do? Where can you put your confidence? David tells us. In the last verses  Psalm 5:11 he says to rejoice, put your trust in God – He is your sure defense. The Lord promises to bless the righteous and protect you with His shield.

I know in my heart that God hears my prayers, but answered I’m not so sure right now.

Oh I’m sure Rhys was laughing at the kite flying incident. Seriously, Sponge Bob?

God does answer prayers, but according to His will and understanding, not ours. He is our sure defense, even against sadness. Rejoice in the Lord always.

Bible Verse of the day February 5th, 2012

~ Verse of the Day ~

Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

    -- 1 Corinthians 10:12,13

Time for Reflection and Prayer for Guidance

December 25, 2009 @ 1:53 PM

So today I have recommitted myself and exhort you also to make an example of yourself by doing “the right thing” in all things. It’s pretty simple actually, if we do His will, he is free to fight our battles, but if we don’t, and we refuse to repent of our sin and except His Grace, can we honestly expect the Creator’s intercession on our behalf, in personal, civil or political matters?

Conflict Of Good & Evil

November 28, 2009 @ 11:02 AM

God is a God of grace and it says in 2 Peter 3:9 that “He is not willing that any one perish but that all will come to repentance.” Yes he loves all of us, Christians, Muslims, and Jews, not one more than the other, but His grace can be refused by our rebellious will. It will break his heart but when the time comes he will judge and punish us accordingly!

Trusting the Plan

October 10, 2009 @ 2:15 PM

When life is hard, when life hands us sorrows and disappointments, when life doesn’t go according to our plan, when we feel the heavy burden of our utter lack of understanding, we must trust. We must trust passionately and completely, knowing that He that is in us is greater than the world around us.

This is absolutely a powerful video. It is worth taking a few minutes to watch when you are not rushed.

Missing Boaters Found

September 07, 2009 @ 9:30 AM

“We tried flagging’ everybody we could, but I guess it was not our time to go home yet. They’d come straight at us, we’d be like ‘Hey,’ and there they’d go,” Hall told KHOU. “I was like, well, you know the good man above, either he’s teaching us a lesson or showing us something. And finally, when that boat came, it was just … I don’t know.”
“It was a miracle,” Phillips said, finishing Hall’s sentence.

Little Miracles

September 02, 2009 @ 12:17 PM

I don’t mean to say God doesn’t hear us, the bible tells us that he most certainly does listen to our prayers, he just doesn’t audibly speak to us. Most of us are so out of touch with our inner voice that we couldn’t hear his voice even if he did speak directly to us and our eyes are so clouded with the things of this world that seeing the miracles he does every day is nearly impossible.
