USA (Mission Network News) ― Martha Rosales lost her life to cancer two years ago. On Tuesday, her prayers for her family were answered when her husband and six children moved into a new home.
Volunteers from First Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN helped Buckner International build the 2-bedroom, $15,000 house, the McAllen Monitor reports. The interior of the house is not yet finished, but Rolando Rosales has a friend who will help him paint the floors and install the kitchen floors and appliances.
Buckner is there to help if needed, but the agency deliberately leaves the homes it builds unfinished so the new residents can have a sense of responsibility and ownership. “We’re helping fill the gap that they just can’t cross,” explained Albert Reyes, president of Buckner International. PHOENIX — Rita Van Loenen had no idea that a trip in Thomas Chappell’s taxi cab could end up being the ride that saves her life.
“There are better odds of getting struck by lightning,” Van Loenen said. “A random taxi driver offering to give me his kidney and all these pieces match. There has to be something behind this. How can this be?”
Chappell, who has been driving Van Loenen to dialysis appointments, shocked the Gilbert, Ariz. woman a month ago by offering to donate his kidney. But even more shocking to her was that doctors found they had the same blood type, that they were compatible. Continued »
Path Cleared for Memorial to Flight 93
Work will begin this fall on a memorial to those killed aboard United Airlines Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001, now that agreements have been reached to buy the last key pieces of land in Pennsylvania, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said Monday.
The federal government will pay about $9.5 million to the owners of nine parcels near Shanksville, in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, totaling 1,395 acres, including the site where the plane crashed and one right-of-way, Mr. Salazar said. Continued »
